We are looking for an AI adoption partner

Applications close on 28th October 2026

We're looking for an AI adoption partner who can help us deliver AI Opportunity Scans, build and test AI prototypes, and provide technical support across the Frontier Tech Hub's AI Adoption portfolio. Up to ยฃ30,000, October 2026 to March 2027, remote.

The Frontier Tech Hub helps FCDO teams and partners understand, test and adopt frontier technologies. Over the past decade, the programme has piloted more than 100 innovations across 44 countries, generating evidence about what works and helping organisations explore new approaches to development challenges.

Within the programme, Pillar 3 focuses on AI and technology adoption. We help teams identify opportunities to use AI, experiment with solutions, and develop practical tools that improve decision-making, evidence use and programme delivery.

As demand for AI support continues to grow, we're looking for additional technical capacity to help deliver our work.

What you'd do

This role combines AI advisory support with hands-on prototyping and product development.

A core part of the role will involve supporting or leading AI Opportunity Scans. These are structured engagements that help teams understand where AI could add value to their work. Working alongside Frontier Tech Hub colleagues and client teams, you'll help analyse workflows, identify opportunities, assess risks and feasibility, and develop practical recommendations for adoption.

Where promising opportunities are identified, you'll help turn ideas into working prototypes. This could involve developing proof-of-concept tools, testing them with users, gathering feedback, and iterating solutions to better meet operational needs.

You'll also provide wider technical support across the Pillar 3 portfolio. This includes advising on AI opportunities identified by partners, supporting solution design and technical scoping, contributing to workshops and adoption journeys, and helping ensure responsible approaches to AI governance, safeguards and risk management.

Potential areas of work currently include safeguarding, political economy analysis, proposal review support and other future Opportunity Scans as they emerge through the programme pipeline.

What this work looks like in practice

Recent Opportunity Scans have led directly to the development of AI-powered tools now being used across the international development sector.

Examples include:

EvalExplorer

An AI-enabled platform that unlocks insights from thousands of evaluation reports by transforming PDF-based evidence into structured, searchable and traceable knowledge. Today it contains more than 218,000 excerpts from over 1,500 evaluation reports.

Transport Global Intelligence System (TGIS)

A transport intelligence platform that combines multiple datasets and knowledge sources, allowing users to ask complex transport-sector questions in natural language while maintaining full source traceability.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for individuals or organisations with a strong combination of technical AI expertise and practical implementation experience.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Expertise in artificial intelligence and generative AI

  • Experience designing, building and testing AI applications and prototypes

  • Experience identifying AI opportunities within organisations

  • Strong understanding of responsible AI principles and governance

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
