The Challenge
8.7 million people are in need of humanitarian aid in Northeast Nigeria but the aid appeal is currently funded at only 18%, leaving many Nigerians without access to life saving assistance and support. Humanitarian aid is notoriously duplicative, and de-duplication of assistance efforts is critical. The humanitarian aid community must find ways to be more efficient and reduce duplication of assistance and efforts to maximise the impact and reach of aid by more efficiently, effectively and accountability serving vulnerable communities.
The Idea
This pilot will develop a blockchain application to enable interoperability between humanitarian cash actors, identify duplication of aid and help maximise the impact of aid. This application will ensure that data sharing is limited to exactly the data points required, safe and in accordance with humanitarian principles. Each household receiving aid will receive a unique ID that monitors the aid they receive. The application will work in the background to ensure duplication checks are regularly conducted. This pilot will promote greater collaboration, increased trust and shared standards among humanitarian actors to maximise the impact of aid.
